DepCart
No leaving of IDE and switching tabs more for packages.
Free VS Code extension to search packages on npm, PyPI, Go, crates.io, Maven, NuGet, RubyGems, Packagist, pub.dev and Hex, pick versions and get the right install command.
I was inspired to build DepCart after experiencing this problem myself. Every time I needed a package, I had to go to the browser, search the package on the right registry, check the version, copy the install command, switch back to VS Code, paste it, and repeat the process across different projects and languages. Switching between multiple tabs and figuring out which package manager or command to use became unnecessarily hectic. I wanted to eliminate that friction, so I built DepCart to bring package discovery, version selection, and installation directly into VS Code. As I worked on it, the idea evolved into a project-aware tool that could detect the package manager and generate the exact command for the developer.
Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Darshan, the maker of DepCart.
I write code in a few languages, and adding a dependency always meant a browser tab per registry (npmjs.com, pypi.org, pkg.go.dev…) plus remembering whether each project uses npm or pnpm, pip or uv.
DepCart puts all ten major registries in one VS Code sidebar:
🔎 One search box across npm, PyPI, Go, crates.io, Maven, NuGet, RubyGems, Packagist, pub.dev and Hex
📌 Pick any version, stable first
🧠 It reads your lockfile and writes the command your project actually uses
⚡ One command per language. Copy it or run it in the terminal
🔒 No telemetry, validated package names, MIT open source
It's v0.0.2, very early, and I'm building it in public. I'd love to know:
1. Which registry or tool should come next?
2. What felt confusing the first time you used it?
There's a Feedback link right inside the sidebar, and contributions are welcome. Adding a registry is one TypeScript file. Thanks for checking it out! 🙏
