I built Deck because my desktop was a graveyard of half-dead dashboard apps. every system monitor, calendar strip, and PR tracker I tried was either a floating window I'd have to manage or a menu bar item that hid everything. macOS already ships a perfect home for this stuff: WidgetKit. Real widgets, native materials, three sizes, right on the desktop.
So Deck is one tiny native app that gives you a full set of desktop widgets. system monitor with live CPU/MEM/DISK charts, network rates per interface, battery plus your Bluetooth accessories, git activity across your repos, open ports and Docker containers, clipboard history, calendar with TODAY/TOMORROW sections, weather, world clocks, GitHub Actions status, Azure DevOps tasks, and a mixed GitHub + Azure PR review queue. Every widget is a genuine WidgetKit widget. same corners, colors, and materials as everything else on your desktop, no floating window cards.
The engineering part I'm proudest of: the widget sandbox blocks subprocesses and reading other apps' data, so a silent background agent refreshes those snapshots every 60 seconds while the pure system widgets (CPU, network, battery) read mach, getifaddrs, and IOKit directly inside the widget itself. The whole thing is open source (Apache-2.0), free, and has zero telemetry. nothing leaves your machine except the fetches you configure.
Honest limitations: it's not notarized yet (so there's a one-time quarantine command on install), and there's no App Store build. it's Homebrew and GitHub releases today. What's not built: no widget for emails or Slack, no custom widget builder yet, and only English copy.
