I kept your voice and story. I took out "stake" and "split" and the explanation about it not being betting, and changed the TestFlight link to the live App Store link.
I've made the same promise every January for about a decade. Out loud, to friends, to my partner, to myself. And I've broken it by February almost every time.
Not because I didn't mean it. Because meaning it was all it ever cost me.
So I built Dazim (다짐, Korean for "a resolve you make to yourself").
How it works: you write a commitment the way you'd say it out loud, like "run 3km every morning for two weeks", and the app fills in the rest. You put points behind it, alone or with friends who take on the same goal. Finish, and you keep your points. Quit, and yours go to the community pot.
Points are free, can't be bought, and can't be cashed out. It's not about money. It's about quitting finally costing you something, with friends who'll notice.
The part that took the longest was verification. A commitment means nothing if you can just claim you did it. So steps and distance come straight from your phone, photo proof gets confirmed by the people doing it with you, and things that genuinely can't be proven (like quitting smoking) are one honest tap a day, clearly labelled as such.
Built in Korean first, because 작심삼일, "a resolve that lasts three days", is a phrase every Korean already knows. English works throughout too.
What I'd really like your take on:
Would losing points actually change what you did? Or would you shrug?
Would you use this alone, or only with people you know?
What goal would you put first?
Built solo over the last few weeks. iOS only for now. I genuinely want the criticism. I found a real bug ten minutes into using my own app, so I have no illusions.
