DayReplay is an automatic time tracker for Windows and macOS. It records your workday in the background — apps, windows, and browser tabs — so you can review what happened in a few minutes instead of trying to remember it.
I built it because I bill by the hour and manual timers never worked for me. My day is constant context switching, so my log was always wrong by evening and rebuilding an invoice from memory ate my Fridays. I wanted the opposite of a timer: something that just records, and lets me review and categorize at the end.
The thing I cared most about was keeping it genuinely local. It reads metadata, not pixels — the active app, window title, and focused browser tab via the Accessibility API on macOS and UI Automation on Windows. No screenshots, no keylogging. Your activity stays in a SQLite file on your own machine, and the only network request the app makes is checking for updates. After years of trackers that feel like surveillance, I wanted one I'd actually trust running all day.
The browser tab context is what makes it useful for billing: "Chrome for 4h" tells you nothing, but grouping by domain turns it into a few defensible rows with start/end times and the tabs behind them.
