Daily Captain is a daily goal sheet, not a to-do list. Every morning you write down what today is for, up to seven goals. At midday you check once. At night you count honestly and set tomorrow's first goal. One buddy sees your week. It takes about a minute a day.
I worked in sales. One goal, a thousand things to do, and I was busy every single day. One night, after an 18-hour grind, I asked myself: "and now?" Out of everything I did that day, and the weeks before, how much of it actually got me closer to the number? Spoiler: almost none. It felt productive. It was not aimed.
The problem is not a lack of productivity apps. I had tried plenty. The problem is being busy all day and not knowing whether any of it moved you toward what matters. And every tool I tried made that worse: more setup, more choices, more things to log, until the tool itself was one more thing I was falling behind on.
So I made a sheet. Paper. Every morning, what today is for, at most seven lines. At midday, one check: is what I am doing moving me toward what is left? At night, an honest count and tomorrow's first goal. That is the whole method. I put it online as a free PDF, people started using it, and it is still free.
Daily Captain is that sheet made dynamic, plus the one thing paper cannot give you. I build alone, and I found out I do not need a partner for the work. I need to be seen doing it, the way you work harder in a library than at your kitchen table. So in Daily Captain one buddy sees your week, and your page can show the goals you choose to show. Not a feed, not a score. One person who knows what you set out to do.
