In January 2025 I sat down to cancel one subscription and ended up cancelling five: a notes app, a to-do app, a calendar, a habit tracker, a clipboard manager. About $260 a year. The money was not really the problem. The problem was Tuesdays. A thought arrives in a meeting, so it goes in the notes app. It turns out to have a deadline, so a task goes in the to-do app. The deadline is Thursday, so a block goes in the calendar. Nothing was ever lost inside any one of those apps — every one of them was well made. Things were lost between them, in the seams, where the connective tissue was me, doing it by hand, several times a day, forever. Cyanote is one window with one search box across all of it: notes, to-dos and a board, calendar, habits, routines, a Pomodoro timer, and a system-wide clipboard manager. Two things are actually different. It is local-first — everything is a SQLite database on your own Mac, there is no account, and it works with the wifi off. And it is $10 once rather than $10 a month, which means I have no structural reason to grow features you did not ask for. The honest costs: macOS only for now, no sync between machines, no phone app. What I would like from you: tell me the one thing that would stop this being your daily driver. I will be here all day.
