I first launched CowYo here on April 12, 2016 with the tagline “Your favorite notepad features combined, and simplified.” The original was a self-hosted notepad/wiki with Markdown, history, lists, and curl. The listing still has two points and one comment, which feels about right for a very small tool.
Ten years later, I rebuilt it because the core job has not gone away: sometimes you need a piece of shared text, not a workspace.
The new cowyo is deliberately smaller in concept and much more live. Open cowyo.com, get a memorable URL, type, and share it. Edits autosave and sync in real time, collaborators get live cursors, and nobody needs an account. When a page needs more control, you can encrypt it entirely in the browser, lock editing, publish it, or make it self-destruct after one final load. It still speaks plain text over curl, and it is still free and open source.
