A while back there was an app called Contextual App Folder (C.A.F.) that did exactly this - a home screen folder whose contents changed based on context. It got pulled from the Play Store in 2023. ContextFolder is a modern take: each app icon carries its own rule - show, hide, or promote based on Bluetooth, day or time, or driving detection - plus a manual profile layer you can switch by hand. Free tier with limits; one-time purchase unlocks more, no subscription.

Hey PH! A while back I used an app called Contextual App Folder (C.A.F.) - it put a home-screen folder on Android that changed its contents based on context: Bluetooth device connected, location, time of day. It got pulled from the Play Store in 2023 and never came back, and I kept missing it. So I built ContextFolder. Each app icon on the widget carries its own rule - show, hide, or promote based on Bluetooth, day/time windows, or driving detection (via Android's Activity Recognition API, so it survives the process being killed in the background). There's also a manual "profile" layer for anything better switched by hand than auto-detected. It sits on top of whatever launcher you're already using - it's a widget, not a launcher replacement. Free tier with limits (1 widget, a handful of tracked apps); a one-time purchase unlocks unlimited widgets/apps, backup/restore, and an automation intent API for Tasker-style control. No subscription, no ads. Would love feedback, especially on what other context signals would be useful.

Who hunted ContextFolder?

ContextFolder was hunted by Stan. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
