Compressr is a browser extension that levels audio as you watch. Quiet dialogue comes up, sudden blasts get caught before they reach you. It runs entirely on your device, so no audio ever leaves it. Free on Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, no account needed.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I built Compressr because I was tired of riding the volume button through everything I watched in a browser: turning it up to catch whispered dialogue, then lunging for it when an ad or an explosion came in twice as loud. TVs and some apps have a "night mode" for this, but my browser had nothing, and the extensions I tried either sent audio somewhere or only worked in one browser. So I built one that levels the sound right on your device, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. What it does: Compressr sits in your browser and rides the loudness of whatever is playing toward one steady target. Quiet dialogue comes up; a sudden blast (an ad, an explosion, a jump-scare) is pulled down before it reaches you by Sudden Volume Protection, then it recovers gently. Press and hold Hold for Original any time to hear what it's doing. Private by design: the processing is an AudioWorklet running in your browser. No audio is recorded or uploaded, the free version needs no account and makes no network request, and the shipping build sends no telemetry. It also never touches your system volume. Pricing: the core leveling is free. Pro Lifetime is a one-time $14.99 at launch (normally $24.99) and adds Dialogue clarity, the Night preset, per-site profiles and Fair Compare. For Product Hunt, code **LAUNCH999** takes another $5 off at checkout, so Pro is **$9.99**. No subscription, and every purchase is refundable for 14 days, no questions asked. One honest limitation: on Chrome and Edge it processes the whole tab. Firefox and Safari don't allow that, so there it uses Compatibility Mode, which levels regular HTML5 video and audio. DRM-protected streams play at their original volume in those two browsers. I'd love to hear where it falls short for you: which sites, which content, what felt off. I'm here all day.
