I first got the idea on a family vacation. We'd paid in full for specialty dining on a cruise, receipts and everything, only to find out it was never actually booked for us. We ended up eating at the buffet the whole trip. To get our money back, we spent hours on the phone fighting with the company, until we realized the agents weren't trying to help us at all. They're trained to deny refunds and waste your time until you give up.
That's when it hit me, this wasn't the first time. Phone bills, airlines, landlords, you name it. And I knew I couldn't be the only one. I did some research and found out this is intentional. Big companies deliberately make refunds difficult because most people eventually quit.
