Cogni is a browser extension that sits on top of ChatGPT and Claude and intercepts a prompt before it sends, if it looks like you're handing real thinking to the model. A short reflection question appears first. Your take, in your own words. Then the AI answers, and you've got something of your own to weigh it against. Made for people whose work is supposed to sound like them, not like everyone else's ChatGPT output. Quiet by default, never gamified, and it stays out of your way on lookups.
Hey Product Hunt!
Shivansh here, solo on this one.I built Cogni because of a small thing that kept happening.
I'd open ChatGPT/Claude to think through a decision, and twenty minutes later I'd notice I hadn't really thought about it. I'd just absorbed a confident-sounding answer and moved on. The research on this is starting to back up my suspicions
There's 10+ papers pointing to this in the last two years, including a 2025 paper by Gerlich showing a strong negative correlation between AI use and critical thinking, mediated by cognitive offloading. Bastani's high school maths study found students with unguarded GPT access scored 17% lower once the AI was taken away.
Cogni is a browser extension for ChatGPT and Claude (for now). When you're about to send a prompt that looks like you're handing real thinking over (a decision, a strategy question, a brainstorm), it pauses for a moment and asks what you think first. Your take, in your own words, before the model's.
I created this as a mechanism to preserve human cognition, creativity and individualism in an age where answers are more and more generic.
If you try it, I'd love to know what you'd want to be reminded to think about, that you currently let AI handle for you.
Does the reflection prompt get smarter over time based on what you skip, or is it the same set of questions cycling on each trigger?
the reflection prompt caught me off guard on a few drafts where i would have just hit enter and pasted whatever came back, and it actually changed my output a couple times. runs quiet enough that i forget it's there until i need it.
