I got tired of fishing my phone out for Waze every drive, so I built a community nav app that runs in the Tesla browser. Like a lot of Tesla drivers, I'm a heavy Waze user, not because I love the app, but because I hate surprises. The speed trap just past the crest. Sitting in a jam that a two-minute detour would have avoided. A ticket for being slightly distracted at exactly the wrong moment. But in the Tesla, the ritual drove me nuts: get in, realize the phone is still in my pocket, fish it out, open Waze, wait for GPS lock, realize I'm still on my home wifi, but too far to get a real connexion… and the days I'm running late, exactly the days I need it most, I'd skip it and get burned. Meanwhile there's a 17" screen right there that is, in my opinion, way safer to glance at than a phone in a cupholder. I also used teslawaze and teslanav over the years, and watched both shut down. So I built my own, with the goal of doing it properly and for the long haul: https://codriver.io What it does today, in the in-car browser (nothing to install): - Police, hazard & jam alerts from drivers ahead, with full turn-by-turn nav running alongside Tesla's — road-ahead-up camera, live traffic, and it only reroutes when you've actually left the route. - Every charging network on one map — Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, IONITY — filtered to connectors your car actually takes (Europe + North America + Australia / NZ coverage) - A lite mode for older cars (MCU2) — one toggle drops a faster map, because a 2019 Model 3 OG browser deserves love too - No typing on the Tesla, ever — sign-in is a QR code you scan with your phone - Privacy-first: pseudonymous account (just an email), data hosted in the EU, community features opt-in Completely free during beta (Might stay like that forever). Maybe I'll invest some time in premium features that really brings value. I'd genuinely love your input: what would it take for you to leave the phone in your pocket? Which alerts matter most to you? I have a ton of ideas, but I want to make sure I'm not the only one using it. Thank you.
