I’d like you to meet Coach, your AI career coach. I’m Jared Chung, Founder and CEO of CareerVillage.org, the nonprofit organization that brings you Coach.
Since 2011, CareerVillage.org has served millions of online learners through our open-access Q&A platform that crowdsources career information and advice from real-life professionals (think Reddit for career info).
💡We had been integrating AI into our platform in small ways since 2021, but by March 2023, we realized we could use AI to further scale impact and provide access to high-quality career guidance to many, many more people, particularly youth and adults who have not historically had much access to career support. That’s how Coach was born.
🚀By July 2023, the key was in the ignition. For the past 13 months, our team has worked so hard to bring this tool to life: Coach’s 30+ research-backed career development activities are now available and totally free for anyone to try!
🌎Our vision is for learners everywhere to have access to personalized, high-quality career support. V1 Coach is chat-based, but new features to improve the tool and make it truly multimodal and globally accessible are already in the pipeline.
🤝Our Coach coalition of 20+ industry leaders and career development experts (think: educational institutions, workforce boards, and non-profits) is a huge reason we’ve been able to do build this tool responsibly, safely, and effectively for learners. Our coalition has offered critical advisory support, provided product feedback, and shared their catalog of resources and services with Coach's recommendation library. It also helped get Coach into classrooms for testing with hundreds of students and educators from diverse communities across the US and around the world.

This AI career tool seems like a good step forward but I'm skeptical about how well it can really replace human guidance, it's great you have a lot of experts involved but how exactly are you ensuring it doesn't become too generic over time, would love to know what kind of real-world feedback you've gotten from students so far, especially those who have little access to career support initially
