ClipTiks is a free, browser-based TikTok downloader. Its standout feature is Highlights: paste a creator's username and ClipTiks pulls their entire Highlights reel, something almost no other downloader can do. Where available, it also saves videos, pictures and stories in genuine full HD without the TikTok watermark or username overlay. No account is needed and there's no app to install. Works on iPhone, Android, and desktop.
I built ClipTiks because I kept running into TikTok downloaders that quietly handed you a worse copy of the video than what the creator actually posted. One reason I kept going back to certain tools was because their downloads looked like they'd come straight out of the poster's camera roll.
It started as a weekend project: no UI, just a local search box and a download button, built on yt-dlp. Pretty quickly I noticed that my downloads were smaller than what other, competing tools produced for the same video. My first instinct was "my downloader is broken." But that turned out not to be the case. TikTok serves a video across a range of quality tiers, like a bitrate ladder, and I wasn't pulling from the top of that range. So I dug into how TikTok actually serves media and rebuilt the fetching logic around it.
I shelved the project for a while, then picked it back up when TikTok launched Highlights and I realized that there wasn't a way to save them, not from TikTok, and not from any other downloader that I could find. That gap is what turned this from a personal tool into something worth finishing properly. Since Highlights aren't exposed anywhere in TikTok's public web interface, getting them meant digging into how the mobile app itself requests that data which was easily the hardest and most interesting part of building this.
