Cleared
Monthly verdicts on HTML and CSS: use it, hold, or skip
Every month, browser features quietly finish 30 months of support and become safe everywhere. Nobody announces it, so old fallbacks and polyfills outlive their purpose by years. Cleared is a monthly email with five verdicts at most: what just became safe to use, what to hold off on and exactly why, and the code you can finally delete. Verdicts come from browser test data (web-features, wpt.fyi). The full archive is free and ungated.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Yann. I've built for the web for 25+ years and I run a design studio.
Cleared exists because of a loop I kept repeating: spot a clever CSS technique, check caniuse, shelve it for a year… Maybe come back to it. Meanwhile the fallbacks I wrote in 2023 sat in production long after every browser made them unnecessary.
The mechanic under it: a feature becomes "widely available" exactly 30 months after the last major browser ships it. That means the safe-to-use date is just arithmetic, and someone should be watching the calendar and reading the actual test results. That's the newsletter. Five verdicts a month at most: Cleared, Hold, or Skip, each with before after code and the specific test data behind it.
The whole archive is public, no signup needed. Happy to answer anything about the verdict criteria or the browser test data behind it.

Who hunted Cleared?
Cleared was hunted by Yann. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
