ClearEaty scans a barcode — or a photo of the label — and gives any food a 1–10 health score in seconds. What's different: every score explains itself. Tap any ingredient to see exactly what moved the number; each one is scored and weighted by how much of the product it is. Flagged ingredients cap the score, so junk can't hide behind an average. Water and added vitamins show as "not counted" so they can't inflate it. Free, no ads, works as a guest. Honest scores — no brand pays us.
Hi PH 👋 I'm Mahesh, a solo founder in New Jersey.
I built ClearEaty because my family's grocery runs kept turning into label-squinting sessions — 30 ingredients, half of them unpronounceable, and "multigrain" on the front of the box meaning nothing on the back.
ClearEaty scans a barcode (or a photo of the label — farmers-market jam works too) and gives a 1–10 health score in seconds. The part I care most about: every score explains itself. Tap the chips under the number and it shows you exactly what moved it — a flagged additive, ultra-processing, added sugar.
Two design choices I'd love feedback on:
1. Bad ingredients cap the score instead of averaging away. A cookie with Red 40 can't score well just because the other 20 ingredients are fine.
2. Honesty over reach: water and added vitamins show as "not counted" — they can't inflate a score. And when we AI-estimate a restaurant item, we label it as an estimate right on the result.
