Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Ryan, founder of ClauseCheck.
What inspired me:
I was about to sign a freelance contract and had no idea what half of it meant. I couldn’t afford a lawyer and didn’t want to just hope for the best. I looked for a tool that could help and nothing existed that was simple, fast, and free. So I built it myself.
The problem I was solving:
Most people sign contracts without reading them — not because they’re careless, but because legal language is deliberately confusing. One bad clause can cost you thousands, your side projects, or even your ability to work. I wanted to give everyone the same protection that people with expensive lawyers have.
How my approach evolved:
I started with just flagging risky clauses. But I quickly realized that knowing something is risky isn’t enough — people needed to know what to DO about it. So I added negotiation scripts, then plain-English summaries, then the risk score. The biggest evolution was adding the clause rewriting feature — ClauseCheck is now the only free tool that doesn’t just find bad clauses but actually rewrites them into fair language you can send back.
A user just saved $3,800 on a lease they almost signed. That’s exactly why I built this.
