Hi PH 👋 Straight to the thing people will ask first: CinemaFreely doesn't host, stream, embed or re-upload a single video. It's a search index. Every result links out to YouTube, and the film plays there, on the uploader's own channel — their monetisation, their analytics, YouTube's own copyright enforcement, all untouched. If something gets taken down on YouTube, the link here goes dead automatically. Think "search engine for movies that are already free on YouTube," not "streaming site."
Why I built it: I was paying for three or four subscriptions just to occasionally watch one Tamil or Hindi film — while a lot of what I actually wanted was already sitting on YouTube. Official channel uploads, old classics, regional cinema. All there, all free, and all basically impossible to search or discover properly, because YouTube search isn't built to answer "what full-length Malayalam films can I watch right now?"
So: it indexes movie uploads through YouTube's official Data API (nothing scraped), matches them against TMDB metadata so you can search by title, actor, director, genre, language or year, and anyone can submit a link for something free we haven't indexed yet.
Being straight about the limits, because I'd rather say it than have it found: "Official" in the UI means the upload came from a studio or broadcaster channel — it's a signal, not a per-video rights audit, and I'm not going to claim otherwise. If you're a rights holder and want something delisted, cinemafreely.com/dmca has the process and I'll action it fast.
Free, no account, no catch. Would love feedback on the language-filter UX especially — Indian-diaspora viewers are the core audience here.
Love that this exists, finally a clean way to find those public full movies on YouTube without digging through junk. One thing that would make it way better for me: let me filter or sort by year of release, sometimes I'm in the mood for a specific era and scrolling 8000 titles is rough. Could even let me narrow by decade.
the poster grid plus language filter is a really thoughtful touch, makes scrolling through 8k titles feel manageable instead of overwhelming. love that it never feels like a pirate site since everything just opens on YouTube itself.
Love that it's no sign-up and the language coverage is huge. One thing I'd love is a watchlist or favorites feature so I can bookmark films to come back to, maybe with a little note for why I saved it. That would make it way easier to plan movie nights without losing track of what caught my eye.
searched for a rajinikanth film i couldn't remember the name of and it actually popped right up. clean little tool, just wish it had a watchlist so i could save stuff for later.
