I built a layered timeline tool that helps to put different topics in relation (for example the reformation wars and exploration of the americas). You can stack historical topics as swim lanes and zoom through 3,000 years. Zoom out to see the big arcs.
Zoom in to read individual events. Expand a sub-layer inline. See how a plague event in one lane connects to political collapse in another.
Who it's for:
- History enthusiasts who think visually and always wonder how different topics relate to each other
- Students trying to build a mental map of a period, not just memorize dates
- Anyone who's ever asked "wait, what else was happening when X occurred?"
Right now it covers hundreds of layers and thousands of events. With more being added continuously. Quantitative layers (Population curves, army sizes) are also supported so you'll be able to see a population crash alongside the plague events that caused it.
It also allows users to create their own layers and events, as well as "guided tours" stepping through key events in a narrative.
