Every chore app asks how hard a chore is, once, for everyone. ChoreDivider asks each of you, in private: how draining is this for you? Ratings stay sealed until everyone is done. Then it deals each day so minutes stay even over 14 days and nobody gets the chore they dread. Every chore says, why it landed with you. No points, no leaderboard.

Hey Product Hunt, I'm Peter, a solo developer from Germany.

In May my wife Marie and I moved into a house we had spent sixteen months rebuilding. We were exhausted, and we started needling each other: "I did the laundry, what did you do?" We both felt we were carrying more than our share, and neither of us could tell.

The turning point was a conversation about cooking. I said I'd rather renovate the basement twice than cook dinner every night. She said the exact opposite. So we each rated every chore in the house, on our own, by how draining it feels. The two lists looked nothing alike.

Every chore app I could find asks "how hard is this chore?" once, for everyone. I think that's the wrong question. The same chore isn't the same work for two people. So ChoreDivider does this:

- Everyone rates every chore from 1 to 10, in private. Ratings stay sealed until all of you are done, so nobody anchors on anybody.
- Every morning the app deals the day. Minutes stay even over a rolling 14 days, and within that, each of you gets what you mind least. Every chore tells you why it landed with you.
- No points, no streaks, no leaderboard. It's a ledger, not a game.

It needs no account (your household lives in your own iCloud) and it's free for up to four people and ten chores. If you ever upgrade, one purchase unlocks the whole household. "I pay, but my partner doesn't have premium" was the most common complaint I found when I read the reviews of about 40 chore apps.

Honest caveats: it's iPhone only and dark mode only. A partner on Android can still be a full member, you add them by name and hand the phone over.

I built it in public for RevenueCat's Shipaton. The fairness model and the design are mine, and eleven TestFlight rounds with people who didn't know the app reshaped most of it.

One thing I'd love to hear from you: which chore would you rate a 10, and would the person, you live with, guess it?

Comment highlights

what happens when you both rate the same chore a 10? bathrooms at our place, nobody is getting out of that one lol

Amazing idea! Do you have any plans integrating this app with a messaging platform like Telegram?

Keeping the ratings private until everyone finishes is a thoughtful touch. Less room to negotiate before anyone answers honestly.
