I’m excited to finally share Chomp Champ with you.
The idea started with a simple question: What if your face became the game controller? Modern iPhones have incredibly accurate face tracking, but most games still rely on tapping the screen. I wanted to create something that felt completely different—where your reactions and expressions were the gameplay.
That led to Chomp Champ. You open your mouth to catch the right food, dodge the wrong food, and try to keep your streak alive. It sounds simple, but it quickly turns into something that’s as funny for everyone watching as it is for the person playing.
One of the biggest challenges was making the controls feel natural. Face tracking is powerful, but turning it into gameplay that’s responsive, fair, and fun took a lot of iteration. I also discovered that the social aspect was even bigger than I expected. Friends naturally started cheering each other on, laughing at missed chomps, and asking for turns.
That inspired Battle Mode, where two players compete to see who can build the best streak.
