Chess Adventure
A simple chess app built for kids who can't read yet
Most chess apps are too complex for young kids — full of text, menus, and settings they can't navigate. Chess Adventure is built from the ground up for children who are just starting out. Clean visual UI, no reading required. Play against an AI that starts with random moves and gradually gets smarter as you win — or play pass-and-play with someone on the same device. No ads, no subscriptions. One optional one-time purchase for extra color themes, but the full game is free.
I built this for my 5-year-old who wanted to play chess but had challanges to use any of the apps out there — too much text, too complicated or ads. I'm not a chess player myself, just wanted him to play something useful and interesting. Took about a year of evenings and weekends. Would love any feedback — especially on the bot difficulty if anyone gives it a try!
Tried this with my niece and she figured it out on her own in minutes. The no-text approach actually works, and the AI ramping up after wins kept her challenged without getting frustrated.

Who hunted Chess Adventure?
Chess Adventure was hunted by Dmitry Bosikov. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
