X has replaced DMs with "Chat," an all-new secure messaging platform. It adds end-to-end encryption, file sharing, disappearing messages, the ability to edit/delete, and screenshot notifications. Rolling out now on iOS and Web.
If you've opened your X DMs recently, you might have noticed it looks different. Maybe it even asked for your password to get in. Yes, X finally released its long-promised chat platform, simply called "Chat."
It's a big overhaul, adding end2end encryption, the ability to edit or delete messages, disappearing messages, and even screenshot notifications.
So, what do you think? Do you prefer the simple DMs of the past, or are you looking forward to a more full-featured, maybe even standalone, "Chat" app?
What stands out is how approachable the tool feels. Even people who aren’t into analytics can instantly understand the margin story. It’s the kind of product that can build a strong, loyal base just by being genuinely helpful. Great launch.
Abysmal product launch. As usual, the X team just deprecates working features in favor of crap they coded in a weekend.
Missing things like voice notes, far slower than DMs, and adds absolutely nothing to X that anyone needed.
That's a good update. It will be a good way to interact and engage for non-generic stuff.
But I'm not sure about a separate chat app. X is unique and should maintain its originality and DNA by not following in the Facebook steps.
