We started Charaliva because of one frustration and one observation.
The frustration. We loved what SillyTavern and the local roleplay community built β open-world cards, NPC casts, branching scenes. But every time we handed it to a non-technical friend, they bounced. Extensions, presets, API keys, local setups β the onboarding killed the fun before the first reply. We wanted the same depth without the wall. So sandbox story cards on Charaliva run in the browser: pick a card, you're in. No local stack, no prompt engineering, no extensions to install.
The observation. Most AI character products today lean on the model's language ability and stop there. But the model is also a remarkably good coder, and almost nobody in this space is using that. We're exploring a generative front-end layer where the AI can render scene-appropriate HTML β richer environments, interactive props, visual mood shifts β instead of plain text bubbles. It's early, it's moving fast, and it's the direction we're most excited about.
On the companion side, we're pushing toward characters that feel more human β not just "remembers your name" human, but emotionally responsive, paced, and alive across sessions.
Where we are now: live in production, small team, iterating weekly. We'd love feedback on three things β
