Cently is an AI-powered personal finance app that lets you chat with your money. Connect accounts with Plaid, upload receipts and statements, and ask questions in plain English. Instead of digging through dashboards, you get direct answers about your spending, subscriptions, and habits.
Twelve years ago, I looked at a grocery receipt and noticed something strange: I kept buying many of the same things at roughly the same time.
That led to a simple question: If so much of our financial life is predictable, why do we spend so much time managing it?
Back then, the technology wasn't ready. Smartphone cameras were primitive. OCR was unreliable. Modern AI didn't exist.
So the idea sat on the shelf.
Today, AI can understand receipts, transactions, and spending behavior in ways that simply weren't possible then.
What started as an idea to predict future purchases became something much bigger.
As we built Cently, we realized many personal finance apps are collections of screens, reports, and workflows designed to help people understand their money.
We think technology should do more than help people understand their finances.
Technology should help them build healthier habits, catch issues earlier, make better decisions, and find a little more financial peace.

Who hunted Cently?
Cently was hunted by Thomas Cross. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
