I built Centiv because every money app I tried wanted to grade me. Red numbers, guilt notifications, "you overspent on coffee again." None of them respected that I'd actually chosen to spend that money.
So the problem I'm solving isn't "people don't track their spending" — it's that finance apps make you feel bad for living your life. The approach evolved a lot. I started thinking I was building a budgeting tool. About halfway in I realized the magic wasn't the charts — it was the tone. So I rebuilt the entire system around a "tone contract": every notification, insight, and message is engineered to support your decisions, not police them. That single principle reshaped the whole product.
