My parent doesn't want a tablet, a wearable, or another app to learn. What actually gets picked up is the phone already sitting on the side table.
CareRing calls once a day at a time the older person chose, has an unhurried conversation, and afterwards sends the family a short note — how they sounded, and whether the day's check-ins got done.
The constraint I care most about: it must not feel like surveillance. An older person who feels watched stops answering, and then the product is worth nothing. So the design is consent-first:
• No call happens without the parent's own written consent.
• Any day can stay private — the family just sees that the call went fine.
• Families never receive recordings or transcripts. Only a compressed summary, behind row-level security.
• Missed days are recorded honestly as missed, not smoothed over.
One honest note on where we are: this is an invite-only paid beta, and public signup is deliberately still closed. For a product that touches someone living alone, I'd rather finish the legal, crisis-escalation and 24/7 response work before opening the doors. There's a "Request an invitation" form on the site if you'd like in.
