ByteLingual is your French learning companion for iPhone. It teaches vocabulary, verbs and phrases passively through your lock screen and home screen widgets - so you learn in the seconds you already spend glancing at your phone. Built-in spaced repetition resurfaces each word right before you'd forget it, and a quick daily review locks it in. Pick your CEFR level or build custom collections of the words you want. No lessons, just French that sticks between glances.
Hello Product Hunt!
I originally built ByteLingual as a side project for myself. Having tried (and failed, many times) to keep up my French on apps like Duolingo, I wanted another way to stay immersed in the language without carving dedicated study hours out of my day. I check my phone 100+ times a day, so why not put some French learning on my lock and home screen instead?
ByteLingual is a French learning companion that teaches you vocabulary, verbs and phrases passively through lock screen and home screen widgets. Every time you glance at your phone, a new word or phrase is waiting - and the built in spaced repetition logic quietly brings back the ones you're about to forget, so it actually sticks. Learning happens in the seconds you already spend looking at your screen.
It's the difference between studying a language and living alongside it. ByteLingual turns dead scrolling time into steady, low-effort progress - the companion that keeps French front and centre of your mind until it sticks.
Would love your feedback, and happy to answer questions!
Thanks
Love this idea - the lock screen widgets are genuinely clever for fitting vocab into micro-moments. One concrete idea: add a small tap-to-hear pronunciation on each widget word, since spelling alone won't get you far in conversation and right now you'd have to open the app for audio.
Love how the widget setup actually fits into my phone-checking habit instead of asking for more time. The spaced repetition timing seems really well thought out.
honestly the lock screen widget idea is really clever, like using those seconds of dead time you already waste scrolling is such a smart way to make vocab stick without adding any friction
