An Earth observation tool that turns Sentinel-2 and Landsat imagery into instant burn scar maps. Pick a location and date, and it pulls the closest satellite pass, runs Normalized Burn Ratio analysis, and classifies burned area — with before/after swipe comparison and downloadable GeoTIFFs for GIS work. Layer in live NASA FIRMS fire hotspots (VIIRS/MODIS) to track active fires alongside historical damage assessment.
What inspired you to build this?
I wanted to move into hazard management as a focus area. I'd already built a flood risk analysis pipeline, so wildfire was a natural next hazard to tackle — it's a domain where satellite data can do a lot of the heavy lifting if you wire it up right.
What problem were you trying to solve?
Getting from "a fire happened here" to "here's the burned area, mapped and quantified" usually means manually pulling Sentinel-2/Landsat scenes, running your own NBR calculations, and exporting rasters by hand. I wanted to compress that into: pick a location and date, get a classified burn map, area stats, and a GIS-ready GeoTIFF — plus live NASA FIRMS hotspots so you're not just looking at history, you can see what's actively burning too. I scoped it to the US initially to keep data coverage and testing manageable.
