I built Build a Hooper for basketball fans who love the “what if?” side of the game.
What if you could build a custom player by stealing one skill at a time from historic teams? Curry’s shooting, Jordan’s clutch, Rodman’s
rebounding, Magic’s passing, Shaq’s finishing — but you only get 13 picks.
The flow is simple:
1. Spin a historic team
2. Pick one legendary player
3. Steal one skill
4. Repeat until your build is complete
5. Simulate an 82-game season
6. Watch live game logs, submit your record, and share the result
I wanted it to feel more like a lightweight basketball game than a static player builder, so I added live play-by-play, standings,
leaderboard submissions, and shareable season results.
This is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with the NBA or NBA 2K.

Does the draft pool stay fixed with the historic rosters or do you rotate in new legends over time?
Spent way too long picking signature skills for my squad, the draft flow is genuinely fun. Wish the season sim ran a bit faster but watching the game logs tick by is oddly addictive.
Fun little rabbit hole, ended up simming a full 82 just to chase a better record. The 13 signature skills you can steal really change how each team feels to build.
How does the leaderboard scoring actually work when two players run the same historic team with different sigs, is it purely wins or does it factor in the skills you steal?
Finally a hoops builder that actually feels like playing through a season instead of just stacking stats. Spun the 86 Celtics, snatched Bird's passing and Hakeem's post game, and watched a 7-game playoff run come down to a buzzer beater. Solid stuff.
