I've always noticed that people learn faster when it feels like play, and studies of game-based learning back this up. Games raise motivation and engagement and help people remember more, as long as the fun is tied to the content itself. So I didn't want to just make learning look like a game. I wanted the game to be the practice. I added competition because nothing makes people try harder than wanting to beat their friends. The problem I kept seeing is that most people practise by rereading notes alone. It's boring, it doesn't stick, and it doesn't tell you what you actually know. The tools that make practice fun are mostly built for teachers running a class, for studying alone, or around a fixed bank of past questions. BrainArena turns whatever you need to know, whether exam notes, interview topics or a subject you want to refresh, into a quiz in seconds. Then it makes practice a game you play with friends, so you're testing yourself instead of just rereading. My approach changed a lot while building it. What makes BrainArena different is the arena itself: live battles, game modes, streaks and leaderboards. That is the focus. I also learned that trusting the AI takes more work than calling it. It sometimes returned broken questions, and one bad question ruins a live game for everyone, so now every question is checked before players see it, and failed requests retry on a backup model. Multiplayer taught me the hardest lessons. If the host's phone locked, the whole game froze for everyone, and during testing one player's phone missed the signal that the game had started and got stuck in the lobby. I moved control of the game to the server and added checks so nobody gets left behind. I also rebuilt the app around a bottom tab bar after realising my grid of cards meant endless scrolling on a phone. I added one-tap WhatsApp invites, because that's where study groups already live. I stopped storing uploaded files altogether, since the app only needs the text. Finally, I started out thinking only about exam students, but realised the same idea works just as well for interview prep, aptitude tests, or simply refreshing a topic. Students are still the core audience, but BrainArena is for anyone who wants to test what they know and have fun doing it.
