Existing tools (LIMS) are built for the labs running the tests, not the people who own the tanks. BioPortal is built for the asset owner: upload the lab PDF and AI extracts the results in seconds, mapped to the right site and tank. From there you get recurring test schedules, alerts when a result breaches your limits, contamination trends per tank, and plain-English questions over your own data. Already running in production across 27 fuel storage sites for an enterprise rail customer.
BioPortal started when I saw how microbial testing actually gets managed at companies with fuel storage. The lab emails a PDF, someone retypes the numbers into a spreadsheet, and the tank that has been trending towards a diesel bug problem for six months surprises everyone. The testing was happening, the information just went nowhere.
So I built the missing piece: a proper home for the results. Upload the lab report, AI extracts the data and maps it to the right site and tank, and from there you get test schedules, breach alerts and contamination trends. You can also just ask questions about your data in plain English.
I built the whole thing myself and it now runs in production across 27 fuel storage sites for an enterprise customer. That was the biggest surprise of the project: one person really can ship enterprise software now.
Happy to answer anything about the product, or about building niche B2B SaaS solo with AI tools. Keen for feedback, especially from anyone in fuel, rail, marine or industrial water testing.

Who hunted BioPortal?
BioPortal was hunted by Jason Nockels. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
