BigText
Zero-friction giant text & face-to-face communication app
No jumping between screens like in other giant-text apps. BigText is zero-friction: just open and type. The text scales perfectly in real-time to fill your entire screen. • Real-time scaling: Text adjusts to max size as you type. • 3 Sign Modes: Static fullscreen, horizontal banner, and vertical prompter. • Text-to-Speech: Read your message aloud with one tap. • Saves & Themes: Store frequent messages and customize your vibe. • Privacy first: 100% offline, everything stays on your device.
I'd like to share a solo project I've been working on for several months. It has already become a daily tool for some people around the world, so I thought I'd drop it here in case it might be useful to you or someone you know! 🌍
I built a simple Android utility app called BigText, designed to type and display text as large as possible on your screen in real-time. Unlike every other app I’ve seen on the store, there’s no jumping between screens, hitting "validate", or navigating complex menus. You open the app, you type… that’s it 😄 The text scales in real-time as you write.
The unexpected journey:
While I initially built it for general use (like turning your phone into a sign), I quickly started receiving feedback from people around the world telling me this app helps them communicate when talking is impossible. Some described themselves as non-verbal autistic individuals. At about the same time, a friend of mine who got sick and lost her ability to speak ditched her physical whiteboard and started using this app for her daily communication with her family.
The "Suggestion Box" & community:
Seeing how this app became a daily necessity for some, I added an anonymous suggestion box directly in the app. The feedback has been a wild ride! While some messages were delightfully random (like someone sending me a Quran verse about marriage dowries, or someone just typing "Doog" 😂), others completely shaped the app. For instance, a non-verbal autistic user in the US told me that scrolling through a single, massive list of saved phrases was a nightmare when they needed to order at a restaurant quickly. Thanks to their feedback, I introduced a folder/category system to organize saved texts seamlessly.
That collaboration with users led to a solid set of handy tools: * Sign/Banner Mode: featuring horizontal scrolling (banner style) and vertical scrolling (teleprompter style) to catch the eye from afar. * Text-to-Speech: read your message aloud with a single tap. * Saved texts (with categories): save and restore your most used phrases instantly. * Themes: to change the vibe of your screen.
Of course every text you type or save stays strictly on your device, privacy first! 🔒
I attached a video to this launch showing the app in action (it’s my Play Store preview video, so it’s a bit "marketing," but it shows the features well! 😅).
The core app is completely free. There is just a small ad banner to support development, which you can remove with a one-time purchase that also unlocks all premium themes.
The app is currently only available for Android devices.
I see a lot of massive, complex products launching on Product Hunt every day, so I was a bit intimidated to share something this simple 😅 But seeing the real-world impact it’s had, I realized that sometimes the best tools are the ones that just get straight to the point. I hope it can be useful to you or someone you know! I’d love to hear your feedback, roast my UI, or ask me anything! 🚀

BigText was hunted by Charly Lafon. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
