Hey PH! I built BentoSub after running into two problems that kept annoying me as a content creator:
1. Privacy. Most subtitle tools require you to upload your entire video file to their servers. A 2GB recording
shouldn't need to travel to someone's cloud just to generate subtitles.
2. Mixed-language audio. I work with content that mixes Japanese and English — code-switching, loanwords, tech terms
that shouldn't be translated. Standard ASR tools handle this poorly and usually just pick one language.
How BentoSub works differently:
Your video file never leaves your device. Audio is extracted locally in your browser using WebAssembly — only ~30MB of audio goes to our servers instead of your full video. It's deleted from our servers the moment your job is done.
For mixed-language content, BentoSub uses a multilingual transcription model that handles code-switching naturally. Japanese-English, Korean-English, Chinese-English — loanwords and technical terms come out accurately.
