I use AI tools all day, and I kept hitting the same wall. Every new chat started from zero. I'd explain my project again, defend decisions I'd already made, and watch the AI confidently suggest an idea we'd tried and dropped a week earlier. Everything I'd figured out was stuck inside old conversations I'd never open again. So I started building Baton: at the end of a session you type one command, and the AI writes down what it learned. Next time, one keystroke hands a fresh session the whole story. My first plan was for Baton to do the summarising itself. Then it clicked that the AI that just did the work already knows what matters, so Baton never needed to call an AI at all: no API keys, no costs, nothing leaving your machine. After that, building it was mostly a lesson in removing friction. I cut the "approve this before saving" step, because any extra step kills the habit and the habit is the whole product. I stopped shrinking notes into tidy summaries, because summaries drop "what we ruled out", which often matters most. What's left is simple: you finish your work, and your AI never forgets what you taught it.
