Budgeting apps track what you spend and call the leftovers savings: for most people that's zero. Basis flips it. Your saving rate comes off the top on payday, like a bill. Budget the rest across your own categories, and close each month yourself: every overspend forces a decision (cover it from savings, or carry it forward tighter), leftovers sweep into savings. Nothing settles silently. No bank link, no account, no cloud. Free forever, no server to pay for. Built by an Italian teenager.

Hey Product Hunt! I'm cabydev, an italian teenager. I built Basis because every budgeting app I tried had the same shape: track everything you spend, and whatever survives to the end of the month is "your savings." For me that number was always zero; mtracking doesn't cause saving, it just documents the failure. So Basis works backwards from most apps: on payday, your savings rate comes off the top first, like a bill. What's left is what you budget. And at the end of each period, nothing resets quietly, you close the month yourself, and every overspent category forces an actual decision (cover it from savings, or carry it forward tighter). No bank connection, no account, no cloud, it's entirely on-device, and free forever since there's no server to run. The part I'm most unsure about and would genuinely love feedback on: is the forced month-end decision a good friction, or just friction? I think it's the whole point of the app, but I'm one person who's used it for months and I'd rather hear it from people seeing it fresh. Happy to answer anything, architecture, why I made certain calls, whatever. Thanks for taking a look.
