I originally built BaronRouter for my own smart home setup.
I needed free AI models to help control my home, create shopping lists, update gym weights, and handle small everyday automations. The problem was that free models were sometimes rate-limited, unavailable, or just down, which made the whole setup unreliable.
So I built BaronRouter: a free AI gateway that can route prompts across 100+ AI providers, retry when something fails, and automatically fall back to another compatible model.
It has grown into a full chat and API platform with model comparison, personas, projects, file uploads, prompt saving, memory, and an OpenAI-compatible API.

finally an ai router that doesn't make me juggle five browser tabs. the fallback routing saved me when openai started throwing 429s mid-project, and having all my prompts in one place is such a relief.
