Navigating government business registries across the Baltics is frustrating. To fix this, I pulled the raw open data from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to build a unified search engine. Baltic Firms indexes over 800k companies. You can search by name or registration code, and filter by active status, location, and industry. It also includes a completely free API for developers to use. Built with Node.js and Next.js.

Hey everyone, As a side project, I got really frustrated trying to navigate the different government business registries across the Baltics just to check a company's VAT number, active status, or contact details. To solve this, I downloaded all the raw open data from the Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian registries and built a unified, lightning-fast search engine and API on top of it. Right now, it indexes over 800k companies. You can instantly search by name, registration code, or filter by location, industry, and active/liquidated status. The API is completely free and open for developers to use. I built this to scratch my own itch, but I’d love for you to try it out, hit the endpoints, and let me know if it’s useful or if you find any bugs!

Comment highlights

Love that the API is free, that's a huge win for developers. One thing that would make this way more useful for me: add historical data or at least basic change tracking so I can see when a company changed status, got renamed, or had its industry updated. Right now it feels like a snapshot, but real due diligence needs a timeline.

Finally a clean way to search Baltic registries without jumping between three clunky government sites. The free API is a nice touch, especially the active status filter which saved me from digging through dead companies.
