Backkit is a customizable CLI for generating production-ready Node.js backends. Unlike traditional scaffolders that lock you into a predefined boilerplate, Backkit lets you choose how your backend is set up — from language and framework to database, ORM/ODM, authentication, and architecture. Configure your stack, and Backkit generates the boilerplate around your choices.
I built Backkit because I kept repeating the same setup process whenever I started a new Node.js backend — framework setup, folder structure, database, ORM, authentication, configuration, and all the other boilerplate.
There are already plenty of backend scaffolders, so I didn't want to build another tool that gives everyone the same predefined project.
The idea behind Backkit is customization.
You choose how you want your backend to be set up, and Backkit generates the project around those choices.

You can choose things like: TypeScript / JavaScript Express / Fastify PostgreSQL / MongoDB Drizzle / Prisma / Mongoose Authentication Architecture
It's still early, so I'm especially interested in feedback from developers who build Node.js backends.
What would you want your ideal backend scaffolder to let you customize?

Who hunted Backkit?
Backkit was hunted by Amaan Zaidi. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
