I built BackdropX because I was tired of wallpaper apps that call themselves "AMOLED" while actually shipping washed-out, gray-tinted images that don't save any battery on OLED screens.
The idea was simple: only ship wallpapers that hit true #000000 black, so the pixels behind them are genuinely switched off. That's where the real battery savings, deeper contrast, and sharper detail come from — not a "dark mode" filter slapped on stock photos.
A few things I focused on while building it:
- Every wallpaper is checked for real black depth before it goes into the app
- Categories built around actual AMOLED use cases: minimalist, dark aesthetic, nature, anime/abstract, space & neon, motivational
- No account, no login, no ads — just fast, one-tap wallpaper setting
