Hunting this because I have spent most of this week arguing on here that the real problem with AI tooling is memory that does not survive a session. Then I realised the terminal solved it years ago and almost nobody noticed.
Shell history is the oldest memory system most of us own, and by default it is terrible. A flat file, no context, truncated, gone when you switch machines.
Atuin makes it a database. Every command keeps the directory it ran in, the exit code, how long it took, and when. That last part is what changes it. Searching "what did I run in this repo that actually worked" is a different question from grepping a text file, and it is the question you actually have.
Sync is end-to-end encrypted and optional, and you can self-host the server. It is open source and it is not trying to sell you anything.
I am not a maker on this. I just think it belongs here.
For the people already running it: does anyone actually use the stats, or is search the whole product for you too?
