I built AskAny because I was tired of dragging text, files, screenshots, and images from one place to my GPT, Claude, or another AI chat just to get one quick thing done.
The context I needed was usually already right in front of me: in Gmail, Slack, LinkedIn or browser, and in files across my desktop, Finder, File Explorer, and VS Code.
AskAny is a floating productivity widget for Windows and Mac that lets you capture context from anywhere. Select text, files, images, or a region of your screen, click the widget or use the shortcut, and choose what happens next:
Ask questions about selected files from Desktop, Finder, File Explorer or VS Code
Replace selected text with the AI response anywhere
Copy the AI response to your clipboard so you can use it anywhere
Open a chat window directly inside the app you're using
Capture a screen region and ask AI to modify or analyze it
Dictate or quick-chat from the widget
Switch between top model families instead of being locked into one assistant
A couple things we were deliberate about:
AskAny doesn't constantly monitor your screen. You choose exactly what text, file, image, or screen region to send, and only when you trigger it.
AskAny doesn't force AI output into your apps. Clipboard, replace-in-place, or open-chat, you're in control of where the response goes.
The workflow getting the strongest "wow" reaction so far: asking questions directly about files in Finder/File Explorer/VS Code without ever opening a browser tab.
