The idea came from a simple frustration: when you inherit a painting or find something at a flea market, you have two options. Wait weeks and pay for an appraiser, or guess. Most people guess, and they often sell too cheap or hold out for a price that will never come.
ArtValue sits in between. You upload a photo, it identifies the piece and looks for comparable sales that actually happened at auction, then gives you a range with the sales it relied on.
The rule we care most about: when it can't identify the work, it says so and gives no figure. An invented range does more harm than no answer.
It's not a replacement for a certified appraiser, and we say that clearly. It's the first step that tells you whether the piece is worth that appraiser's time.
