I hit Claude Pro message limits mid-month and got frustrated paying $20/month with restrictions. So I decided to build my own — an app that connects directly to the Claude API and shows me exactly what I'm spending.
The key insight: most people don't realize how cheap Claude actually is when you use it directly. A heavy month for me costs $10-15, not $20. And I have zero limits.
I built the whole thing with Claude Code (using Claude itself). The cost dashboard was the game-changer — seeing real-time costs per message changed how I use AI. Now I can compare Claude vs OpenAI side-by-side and pick the best tool for the job.
