AQI Virtual Station
A virtual air-quality station built from satellite data
Governments invest heavily in air-quality monitoring, but physical stations are expensive and concentrated in specific locations—leaving huge areas with limited visibility. Satellite Air Quality Scanner explores a different approach: a virtual air-quality station powered by satellite and atmospheric data. See air quality beyond individual monitoring stations, explore broader geographic patterns, and understand what may be happening where a physical station doesn't exist. Currently on scale 1-100
Hey Product Hunt 👋
There’s something that bothered us about how we think about air quality.
Governments and institutions spend significant amounts of money building and maintaining air-quality monitoring infrastructure. But physical monitoring stations are expensive — so naturally, they can't be everywhere.
That creates an interesting problem:
We can have very good measurements in a few places, while knowing much less about the air in the places between them.
A monitoring station tells you what is happening here.
But what about the area 10 km away?
What about a smaller town?
What about a place that doesn't have a station at all?
That’s the idea behind Satellite Air Quality Scanner.
We're experimenting with turning satellite and atmospheric data into a virtual air-quality station — giving us a way to explore air quality across a much larger geographic area without requiring a physical machine at every location.
This isn't about replacing ground stations. Those measurements are incredibly important.
It's about asking:
Can we use the data already available from above to fill some of the gaps between them?
This is an early version, and we'd genuinely love your feedback.
-> Where would you want to place a virtual air-quality station?
-> What would you want it to tell you?
-> And most importantly — would you trust this kind of data for understanding air quality in your area?

Who hunted AQI Virtual Station?
AQI Virtual Station was hunted by Kavya Shree. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
