I got laid off in the first week of January.
I spent the next few weeks applying to everything I could find.. and heard nothing back. So I started going to networking events and talking to hiring managers directly. The feedback was brutal but useful: stop sending the same CV everywhere, customise for every role, strip the fancy formatting because ATS systems reject it before a human ever sees it.
I went home and started doing exactly that. The interview rate jumped. But my application rate fell off a cliff. Because tailoring a CV properly takes 25 minutes minimum. And using ChatGPT or Claude for it burned through credits faster than I could afford.
So I built something for myself. A Chrome extension that reads a job posting, takes my master CV as the base, and generates a fully tailored, ATS-friendly Word file in under a minute. One month later I had an MVP. In the next two weeks I landed 6 interviews.
Then I decided took it to a job fair. Not to sell it, just to show it as a project and hopefully get hired. Left with 3 people who wanted to test it. Went to another event. Got 6 more. That's when I realised this wasn't just a personal tool. I had something substantial that people would want to use.
That was 3 weeks ago. Today we're here.
