A lot of loyalty, ticketing, and venue apps end up doing one very small job: showing you a barcode when you need it. Wallet is usually a much nicer place for that, but making a proper Wallet pass has never been especially friendly.
Pass Designer is Apple’s visual tool for the issuer side of that problem. Pick a pass type, add images, fields, barcodes, and semantic tags, then see the iPhone and Apple Watch version update live using the same rendering as iOS and watchOS.
It validates the pass as you work and can generate backward-compatible structures for newer semantic passes too.
When you’re done, it exports a .pkpasstemplate. Building, signing, and distributing the actual passes still comes next.
Hopefully this means fewer apps whose main job is showing me a barcode😅
Love that the live preview uses the same rendering as iOS and watchOS, so what you design is genuinely what ships to the Wallet. That trust in the preview is what makes this so useful.
This feels like a useful addition for addition for business that want branded digital experiences without hiring a designer for every small update.
