AppLanes is a per-app VPN router for macOS. Instead of an all-or-nothing VPN toggle, assign each app to its own lane: - through your VPN - straight to the internet - blocked completely. Works with any VPN you already use — WireGuard, OpenVPN, or your provider's app. Includes leak protection, a live connection monitor, and full menu bar control. No account, no telemetry, no servers — it all runs locally on your Mac. First app of its kind on the Mac App Store.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
A few months ago I was on a call, connected to my company
VPN, when Spotify cut out and my banking site threw a
security warning. Standard VPN stuff — everything on my
Mac routes through it, so my bank thought I'd logged in
from wherever the VPN exits.
I toggled the VPN off to fix Spotify. Forgot to toggle it
back on. Missed a Slack message that mattered.
That happened about ten times before I got annoyed enough
to open Xcode instead of just complaining about it. As a
software engineer, I knew the real fix wasn't "remember to
toggle it back on" — it was that macOS just doesn't give
you fine-grained control over which apps use the tunnel and
which don't. So I built it.
AppLanes gives every app its own lane: through your VPN,
straight to the internet, or blocked entirely. Pick the
apps that actually need the tunnel — browser, work tools —
and leave everything else alone. One click, applies
instantly, no restarts, no "wait, why is this broken."
It's not a VPN itself — it works with whatever you already
use (WireGuard, OpenVPN, your provider's app). A few things
I focused on:
— Leak protection you control (fail open or fail closed)
— A live monitor so you can see where traffic is actually
going
— Full menu bar control, no need to keep a window open
— 100% local — no account, no servers, no telemetry
Would love your feedback, especially from anyone running
dual VPNs or juggling a work + personal setup on the same
Mac.
