Between us we've lived and worked across several countries, and we kept running into the same pattern: the people who stayed stuck weren't the ones with bad grammar. They were the ones who never got to speak. You can finish an entire course and still freeze the first time someone actually talks to you.
Most AI tutors make that worse rather than better. Tap the mic, say your sentence, tap again, wait. That's not a conversation, it's dictation with extra steps. And every session starts from zero, the app has no idea you've already made the same mistake five times.
So we built Aplora around two things:
You just talk. No push-to-talk. You can interrupt it, talk over it, and change the subject mid-sentence! From ordering coffee to arguing about a film. This turned out to be much harder to get right than we expected, and it's where most of the last few months went.
