Alma Safety Check-In
A safety app for people living alone and way to stay close.
Alma notifies your emergency contacts if you miss your check-in, even if you can't call for help yourself. And with each check-in, you can also share a moment of your day, so connection doesn't only happen in emergencies.
Hi there, I'm Bastian from Berlin, the founder of Alma.
I built Alma initially for my mum last year. After realizing how many people live alone, work alone, or travel alone with no simple way for their family to know they're okay, I made it public. Shortly after, a similar app went viral and now there are hundreds of vibe-coded alternatives, but I still think mine is the best out there :)
Alma is a daily check-in. You confirm you're okay by your individual check-in schedule. If you miss it, your emergency contacts get notified right away, even if they don't have the app themselves: WhatsApp, Telegram, and email also work.
What makes Alma different is that with each check in, you can add a short note or photo. Your family and friends see it in a private feed, so instead of a silent "all good" signal, they get an actual small update from you every day, so connection doesn't only happen in emergencies.
I'd love to hear what you think, cheers Bastian.
Love the dual purpose here, the daily photo share is such a sweet touch that makes check-ins feel less clinical. One thing I'd love to see is a customizable escalation window, like letting you set different time thresholds for weekends versus weekdays, since my Saturday mornings are way more relaxed than my Monday rush.
The "share a moment" piece is a really sweet touch, it makes the app feel less like a safety drill and more like staying in touch. Set up my check-ins in under a minute and liked that it nudges you before anything alarming happens.
There was also an interview published today in the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" Newspaper in Germany (Paywall):
“A safety app for people living alone and way to stay close.”
